The Devoted Eye, 2025. Ames Yavuz Sydney.
The Devoted Eye is a group show that examines intersections of identity, language, textile and the figure. This is revealed through the seen and unseen within works by Australian artists Karen Black, Jennifer Brady, Solomon Kammer, Deborah Kelly, Charles Levi, Shannon McCulloch, Riley Payne, Todd Robinson and Elle Wickens.
The Devoted Eye is both obscured and revealed by shifting shadows lacquered in paint, gentle contemplations on stitched edges, and glimpses of limbs that twist themselves in charcoal, ceramic and embroidery. Each artist directs our gaze to the slippage of boundaries between body, consumption of the everyday image, offering powerful narratives that emerge from personal archives and histories.
